Title: Development Manager, Middle East 

Location: Dubai Only candidates from the UAE will be considered. 

Full-time 

The Development Manager, Dubai, plays an integral role in the implementation of Room to Read’s activities in the Middle East. The Manager is focused on business development, cultivating relationships, and renewing and providing strong customer service to our donors.

The Business Development Manager is a part of the Global Development team and reports to the Development Director, EMEA. Work week will be 40 hours. The Middle East is one of Room to Read’s newest and most important markets, and we are looking for a dynamic, personable and results-oriented person to help us build on this success.

The successful candidate must be a self-motivated team player committed to our cause and have a track record of delivering results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Manager will serve as Room to Read’s key point person for the International Humanitarian City (IHC) Free zone, Dubai. IHC will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Room to Read’s IHC operations.

Day-to-day responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Managing the ongoing operations of the branch, including signing official documents

Organizing and overseeing the ME events strategy

Meeting with donors and prospective donors

Supporting project managers overseeing Room to Read’s programs in the MENA region

Supporting with leads and opportunities in other markets through collaboration with other Directors and Managers and engaging with other authorities as required and employing staff.

The Development Manager will oversee a portfolio of individual, corporate and foundation donors with a minimum goal for the region of US$1.5MM.

Alongside the Development Director, EMEA, the Development Manager will be the point person for Room to Read’s Middle East Board, convening Board meetings, working with the Board to set goals, and assisting the Board in executing regional priorities.

The Manager shall be named on the IHC branch trade license.

The Manager will be the point person for Room to Read’s Banking Partnerships in the region and will support the finance and legal team in opening bank accounts and other formalities.

The Manager will maintain effective and productive relationships both internally and externally.

Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

• At least 7-8 years of relevant work experience in a similar role

• Proven experience of achieving fundraising results, including successful relationship management, and income generation

• Proven experience in successfully cultivating foundation, individual and corporate donors and in securing five and six-figure donations.

• Familiar with the legal framework and regulations in the UAE region

• Proven ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and priorities

• Excellent written and spoken communications skills in Arabic & English

• Willingness and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with a team

• Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people

• Strong work ethic, results and detail-oriented

• Ability to be flexible and proactively problem solve

• Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high-quality work and low overhead

• Ability and desire to travel internationally, as needed

• Adept at using MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, database systems and communicating over email

• Legally eligible to work in Dubai; no sponsorship provided

Preferred: 
• Proven experience in relationship management with the Government, individuals and/or corporations

• Knowledge of the Middle East charitable environment

• Familiarity with Board and executive-level operations

• Based on the screening discussions, SRI Executive will provide a shortlist of recommended candidates to Room to Read for further review. Suitable candidates to take forward for first round interviews will then be selected by the hiring committee. SRI Executive will contact suitable candidates and arrange interviews.

• First-round interviews will be conducted by videoconference. Based on the outcome of the first-round interview, successful candidates will be invited to participate in a second-round video conference. Face-to-face interviews are being limited at this stage due to the pandemic situation of COVID-19 to ensure the safety of candidates. However, we do aim to hold selected interviews during this process in person in Dubai and will work with candidates to organize these and to ensure safety protocols.

• Please be aware that this appointment will require that you provide us with the contact information of three people who are willing to act as a referee, including former direct reports. We will not contact these individuals without your expressed permission.

• After you meet with Room to Read, we will advise you of their decision and provide feedback. At the selection stage, should you be the preferred final candidate, our client will likely extend to you a letter of intention to offer and that the offer will be subject to a reference from your current employer.

Responsibilities
Weatherford have a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join the team in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.  The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for developing and implementation of quality improvement plans to drive R&M (repair and maintenance) facilities toward ZERO DEFECTS and ZERO QUALITY ESCAPES. In addition to striving for implementation of non-conformance reports (NCRs) and cost of quality (COQ) and improvement and reduction of NCRs and COQ while standardizing quality best practices across the Weatherford Global R&M footprint.  The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Quality, Product Lines, R&M, Engineering and his/her supervisor on a regular basis as well as present to internal teams plans and updates.

 

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

Follows all safety and compliance procedures; maintains compliance and safety as first priorities when working across all areas of the business.
In case of concerns with safety, quality non-conformances, or integrity concerns, exercises ‘Stop Work Authority’ to suspend operations.
Maintains the highest standards of corporate governance, ensuring that all activities are carried out ethically and in compliance with company policies, relevant laws, regulations, standards and industry practices in the applicable country.
Ensure controls are in place to guarantee compliance with government regulations in relation to quality.
OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY

Develop and standardize procedures, quality control plans, sampling plans, inspection test plans, work instructions, and quality template/forms.
Assist R&M Quality in development of a standardized quality program.
Implement Non-Conformances and COQ (Scrap, Rework) at the R&M facility.
Assist the development and implementation of Quality Improvement Plans to drive R&M toward Zero Defects and Zero Quality Escapes as well as reduction of Cost of Quality (COQ).
Collect, analize and summarize quality performance data, apply statistical tools and reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
Apply techniques and tools to improve the output quality of processes by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing related processes.
Identify, document, communicate and standardize best practices to reduce defects.
Implement systematic approach to NCR performance management, tracking, trending and reporting.
Identify technical competences required by different manufacturing trades to build products per Engineering technical documentation.
Assist in the implementation of quality related systems, process and tools.
Cordinate and perform internal process audits.
Prepare inspection test reports.
Interpret Design Engineering data (including blueprints, Bills of Material, specifications), and customer requirements
Develop positive relationships and work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing leaders, and shop floor personnel to manage and implement changes related to quality improvements.
Identify and report any quality concerns and take immediate corrective action as required.
CLIENT COMMUNICATION

Interacts with both internal and external customers with regards to manufacturing quality.
Interacts closely with Manufacturing and Lean Continuous Improvement to drive toward Zero Defects and Zero Quality Escapes.
Qualifications
Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
5+ years of experience in Quality or Engineering (with Quality focus) in an industrial related business.
5+ years demonstrated experience with quality related continuous improvement programs.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical notes, procedures and specifications.
Demonstrated skills related to problem-solving, decision-making, judgment, leadership, root-cause analyses, and team collaboration to lead and influence others to drive change.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Demonstrated report-writing skills.
Strong communication and facilitation skills between functions – verbal and written.
Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
Ability to travel domestically and internationally 20-30% of time.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to evoke critical thinking.

The opportunity 

 

Joining our Indirect Tax team, you'll be a part of a globally integrated team helping leading organizations to move goods and services around the world more effectively. You'll combine your technical skills and practical experience across industries and geographies to provide tailored advice to clients. This will include identifying risk areas and sustainable planning opportunities for indirect taxes throughout the tax life cycle. You'll advise clients on VAT treatment of new and complex transactions and help resolve classification or other disputes and issues with the authorities. You are expected to work effectively as a member of a worldwide network of professional advisors, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress. You must also collaborate with a team of VAT professionals to combine diverse cross-border transaction experience with local tax knowledge across a broad spectrum of industries. Participating and assisting in preparing for meetings with management teams will be part of your role. 

 

You will be assisting in preparing reports and schedules that will be delivered to clients and other parties. You will also develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel and build strong internal relationships within the VAT practice, Indirect Tax and across other service lines. 

 

Technical responsibilities   

 

You must build a deep understanding of the Customs Law and its practical application across the countries. You are expected to understand and apply the regional Free Trade Agreements and key customs concepts such as valuation, classification and origin. You will be identifying and discussing VAT considerations for clients to be aware of in their outbound investments. Engaging with colleagues in overseas offices to deliver VAT advice in respect of global jurisdictions will be part of your responsibilities. You will also prepare for the potential introduction of VAT in the different countries and to discuss with clients how this may impact them as well as work with internal teams to provide indirect tax expertise for audit and transaction projects. 

 

Skills and attributes for success 

 

You must be able to build strong client relationships & excellently communicate in a range of situations in both written and oral English. You should also be able to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards. You are expected to be a client focused and commercially aware team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels. You must also possess project management skills, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget. You should also be able to solve problems creatively and pragmatically.  

 

To qualify for the role you must have 

 

A degree in economics, finance, tax or accounting 

 At least three years of relevant experience as Indirect Tax professional 

 Experience working for a Big 4 accounting firm is preferred. However, we will consider candidates with from law firms or with relevant industry experience 

Customs duty advisory experience is preferable, but we will also consider candidates with VAT/GST advisory experience  

 

Ideally, you’ll also have 

 

 A relevant Masters degree, CPA or ACA/CA/CPA/CMA/SOCPA/Law qualification/CTA or equivalent tax qualification 

Experience working in multicultural teams 

Good verbal/written communication skills 

Strong organizational, project management and analytical skills. 

Strong drive to excel professionally, and to guide and motivate others   

Coordination and prioritization skills 

Independent in managing own workload, ability to work under pressure and to keep things moving and to juggle multiple tasks  

Excellent team player

Implement the Project Quality Plan and ensure the effective implementation of Contractor’s Project Quality Management System and procedures, relating to vendor procurement to ensure that all purchased equipment and materials are compliant with project specifications;
Develop and implement a Procurement Surveillance Plan for all procured equipment and materials;
Reviewing and approving Vendors Inspection & Test Plans, quality control procedures and testing procedures;
Ensuring the provision of inspection resources using COMPANY approved Third Party Inspection Service (TPIS) agencies to conduct vendor surveillance inspections;
Ensure that inspection records are maintained in a procurement database;
Attending regular procurement meetings with Contractor and Vendors to monitor progress and review and resolve quality issues arising;
Implement Deficiency & NCR Management processes to ensure that deficiencies and non-conformances relating to vendor procurement are identified, recorded, investigated and resolved to maintain compliance with project requirements;
Implement Quality Reporting process to monitor vendor quality performance; and to communicate and report on vendor quality performance, issues and risks, and developing trends to Head of Quality EPC-2 and PMT Procurement team;
Actively participate in:
Quality Audit Program to confirm that procurement activities are conducted in accordance with agreed plans;
Lessons Learned process to continuously capture quality learnings from procurement activities and to use them to develop and optimize process or specification improvements;
Issues and Risks management to ensure that vendor quality issues and risks are captured and treated promptly and effectively;
Maintain interfaces, including with:
Yard Fabrication team to communicate any vendor quality issues requiring carry over work;
Welding & NDE Lead to ensure that welding related quality issues are identified, communicated and rectified;
Project Management Team to provide feedback on quality issues; to expedite closure of lessons learned; to provide feedback on quality performance generally;
Providing continual communication, coordination and advice to the Head of Quality EPC-2 and Procurement Team on vendor quality performance and the quality performance of the EPC-2 Contractor, Subcontractors and Vendors;
Conduct other quality related tasks as directed by EPC-2 Head of Quality or HSEQ Division Manager.

What you need to bring:
Minimum of 10 years broad experience in execution of major oil & gas projects, including at least 8 years involvement in the development of major offshore production facilities;
Minimum of 8 years experience in a supervisory capacity of quality or inspection relating to vendor surveillance;
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent;
Additional quality, welding or NDE inspection related qualifications.
