Principal Process Engineer – Hydrogen, SNC Lavalin, Abu Dhabi, UAE

 We are looking for Principal Process Engineer – Hydrogen based in Abu Dhabi with a track record in H2 projects who will:

• Lead or support the development of key H2 opportunities

• Lead or support technical and project delivery especially feasibility projects

• Enhance our project and technical capability

You will have a demonstrable track record in Hydrogen projects and be familiar with the various production processes and technologies.

You will be passionate about the sector and understand its importance to the delivery of a net zero energy system.

The role is based within our NetZero business in Abu Dhabi and our broader remit extends to the integration of all types of energy, its production, transportation, and consumption, as such there will be a requirement to collaborate and work closely with colleagues with a waste to energy, renewable energy, transmission and distribution, CCS and conventional power background.

You will work with a team of project and technical professionals who collaborate across disciplines to help our clients develop solutions in complex projects. Our business is diverse and therefore you will be flexible, adaptable and have a keen interest in working with a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Development of relationships with clients across the MENA region, project developers and energy organisations will be essential to success and you will therefore enjoy working with others, sometimes at client sites, sometimes from our offices, and thrive on working within a collaborative and diverse project environment.

Role:

As part of the Energy Systems business, you will be focussed on the delivery of H2 projects. This work will include:

• Strategic advisory

• Concept development

• Technology assessment and selection

• Pre-FEED

• FEED

As a Principal Engineer, you will:

• Develop and maintain relationships with our clients

• Contribute to the development of opportunities in H2 on behalf of the NetZero business working with the business leadership to convert these opportunities into productive work. You can be expected to be involved in client engagement activities and proposal development alongside project delivery.

• Technically lead the delivery of complex and technically challenging H2 projects across our key markets. This may be in a role of an engineering lead or technical subject matter expert

• Provide technical and project support to teams delivering to key Atkins clients.

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert in relation to Hydrogen or a specific area of Hydrogen

Requirement:

You’ll have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You’ll be able to engage constructively with multiple stakeholders and support delivery of strategic work initiatives.  Through your work you will also help support and shape the development of our future business.

• A degree qualification (or equivalent) in Chemical or Process Engineering or a related discipline, and must be a Chartered Engineer with a suitable engineering Institution (IChemE, etc.)

• Demonstrable energy industry experience with a large part of this in the delivery of H2 feasibility projects.

• Minimum 12 years of experience

• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills

• Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities. Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team.

• Expertise in either methane reformation or electrolysis technology

• Experience of hydrogen production technology assessment and selection

• Experience of delivering complex hydrogen feasibility projects as part of overall feasibility assessments.

• Experience across the project lifecycle from concept, through FEED and implementation.

• Technoeconomic experience with hydrogen systems would be beneficial but not critical.

• A proven track record of delivering complex technical solutions in challenging timescales.

• Track record of winning work in the energy industry.

• A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team, combined with a passion for staff development

• Comfortable with recruiting and growth targets

• Willingness to travel to clients' sites to assist in winning new work and delivering current projects.

Product Quality Technical Advisor, Shell, Abu Dhabi, UAE

 Shell Trading integrates a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, natural gas electrical power and chemicals. Based in the UK, US, Canada, Singapore, The Netherlands, Dubai, and Russia.

Product Quality is table stake in managing a hydrocarbon supply chain. This vacancy in the East regional Product Quality Team is focusing on supporting the Global Trading in all kinds of product quality and product technical matters. Global Trading integrates a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, natural gas electrical power and chemicals around the globe from various offices.

This position is intended to sustain the capability of the East T&S PQ team to support our Trading (SITME) and Commercial Fuels business based in the UAE. The successful candidate for this position will work closely together with the other PQ Excellence Leads and Fuels Technical Advisors in the regional PQ team, as well with the Traders and Commercial operations.

Specifically, as part of East PQ & Claims team, lead the implementation of technical product management within Trading in line with globally consistent standards. Provide Product Quality (PQ) technical support during PQ incidents (PQI); mitigation; investigation; incident report and follow up, including associated learning and recovery against cargo claims. Support Trading engagement with regulators on interpretation of existing and development of new product regulations. Work with Downstream Fuels Technical Managers to deliver PQ enterprise first behaviours across the Trading interface. Furthermore, act as the first point of contact in SITME for any potential claims related issues.

What’s the role?

To provide product quality technical support to Trading for the purpose of maintaining consistent product quality standards compliant with commercial, statutory, and regulatory requirements. At all times through the Quality Assurance activity drive to minimise profit leakage from PQI and maximise value contribution to Trading P&L. Drive HSSE mindset in GIC companies by building shared vision & delivering through others.

In addition, this role would require 20% of time providing fuels technical support to Commercial Fuels, which includes fuels application trials, fuels training for resellers and support other marketing initiatives.

Accountabilities:

• Provide expert advice and support to the Global Trading desks on matters of cargo quality, blending and additives.

• Lead the implementation of technical standards within Trading product management policies, processes, and standards.

• Represent Trading within the Supply Product Quality and Shell Fuels Product Management network, in the formulation of product quality policy and process across the Supply Chain.

• Strong HSSE hands-on experience driving Goal Zero mindset within the GIC Inspection companies.

• • Provide timely briefs to Commercial Operations and Trading managers on key product quality issues in support of Enterprise First decision-making.

  • Provide expert advice to Trading on the technical and commercial implications of current and emerging regulations.

  • Provide coaching and training on product quality issues to Trading Operators as required.

  • Provide technical support during PQ incidents, causation theory, mitigation, investigation, and incident report and follow up including recovery against cargo claims.

  • Support the Claims and Legal departments in the management of quality claims.

  • Contribute to specific technical product management projects on behalf of Trading.

  • Active support for the Product Quality Incident Reporting within Trading.

  • Provide technical advice and support regarding inspection and quality assurance of laboratory services.

  • Responsible for carrying out Inspection Audits, as applicable, across the Middle East geographical area.

  • As directed, represent Shell interests in external organisations in relation to Quality Assurance matters.

  • On a need basis, provide technical support to Commercial Fuels business, acting as fuels technical advisor to B2B customers. This includes and not restricting to fuels technical trainings, fuels application trials, supporting marketing initiatives, etc.

  Special Challenges:

  • To pro-actively work with the trading teams, the Global Products Claims team members and other concerned parties to promote a Quality Assurance process, with the aim to help minimise/avoid quality claims throughout the supply chain. To actively work with traders to optimise quality profitability by advising on blending/doping possibilities to improve base load quality specification.

  • Working remotely from line manager, the incumbent will need to be able to independently prioritise and manage their time and tasks to deliver an effective, professional QA service to the Trading desks.

  • In addition, you would spend 20% of time providing technical support to Commercial Fuels B2B customers, promoting quality assurance as a CVP in addition to benefits of differentiated fuels.

  • Able to attend to urgent product quality incidents queries during out of office hours on special circumstances.

  What we need from you

  • The candidate will have solid knowledge of Petroleum Quality, Analytical techniques, Testing Methods, Bulk Cargo Sampling Procedures as well as being familiar with general Cargo Inspection. Furthermore, strong hands-on HSSE knowledge as well as HSSE control framework, should be able to conduct Business Performance Reviews (BPRs) with the GIC Inspection companies to drive the Goal Zero through building shared vision & driving the right mindset through delivering through others.

  • The candidate will ideally be a qualified Chemist/Engineer, experience of working in a laboratory will be an advantage or hands on experience of running a terminal.  Ideally person may have work experience of an Oil Inspection company for a number of years or dealing with Inspection companies.

  • The candidate will have experience of Bulk Cargo Sampling procedures gained through working some time in the field.

  • The candidate should be either qualified to HNC/HND or preferably to BSc level in Chemistry or equivalent.

  • The candidate will have experience of auditing and preferably should hold an industry recognised audit qualification. Full hands-on experience of LOD 1 & 2.

  • The candidate shall have a demonstrable commercial acumen in a business environment and possess strong leadership skills.

  • An awareness of the risk involved in physical oil trading and shipping operations would be advantageous, as would a basic understanding of Incoterms.

  • Knowledge of diesel fuel application for on-road and off-road would be advantageous.

  • Good IT, communication, stakeholders management and negotiation skills are essential.

Senior Associate - Urban Planner, AECOM, Abu Dhabi, UAE

 Job Summary

Senior Associate – Urban Planner role sits within the Urban Planning of the Urbanism + Planning practice line and leads the implementation of strategy for teams or units within a business, function or geographic operation, including projects and achievement of result.

The position requires to lead, develop and produce quality product and implement practice plans and project requirements and will develop and implement a business development plan and marketing activities to cultivate a presence and client base in the market and secure future planning and design projects for the practice.

• Manages and delivers high value complex multi-disciplinary projects with project management skills, working directly with the Associate Director and Director levels

• Leads showcase complex proposals and ensures high quality output including innovative ways to present

• Independently manages client expectations and deliverables to ensure alignment with contracted scopes by leading client and project meetings, articulating and defending the work undertaken.

• Ability to operate as a technical lead for multiple projects at various scale of master planning projects with a sound understanding of all relevant planning workstreams.

• Provide specific technical expertise in spatial planning, regional planning, developing governance and implementation strategies

• Has strong capabilities to coordinate, challenge, and manage multiple disciplines for complex projects and communicate project objectives/deliverables to drive the best outcome.

• Has strong people management skills and provides professional urban/environmental planning mentorship/guidance to junior staff members.

• Seeks out ways to improve planning/environmental analysis processes and ensures critical thinking is conducted throughout the planning team.

• Has excellent written and presentation skills in English/Arabic (preferred) with an ability to coordinate and develop a deliverable (report) as well as create a presentation and summary to support the deliverable.

• Leads more than one specialty topic / interests in urban planning e.g., wellness planning / placemaking

• Strong understanding of planning / environmental governance and policy and can communicate planning / environmental governance and policy and make recommendations to clients where relevant.

• Can structure and manage tailored planning guidelines and controls as per client requirements.

• Strong ability to communicate differences between planning stages and drive outcomes of report structure and content.

• Communicates and coordinates with clients and project teams to enable creation of project briefs to set out project objectives.

• Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and government (approving agencies) to advance approvals of development, Master Plans, Development Guidelines and policies.

• Liaise with government agencies and other authorities as may be required regarding development objectives, policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

15+ years’ experience in the Urban Planning field, candidates would ideally have worked on government and private sector projects. Management experience is required as the successful candidate would lead a multi-disciplinary team.

• Expertise in providing technical guidance for developing regional plans, city or national spatial strategies, comprehensive city plans and governance and implementation frameworks and action plans.

• Exceptional experience in preparing high-quality, multi-disciplinary written and illustrative planning principles, concepts, strategies, controls and guidelines.

• Strong ability to write, refine and deliver final reports with regard to planning, urban design and development projects.

• Ability to structure, lead and participate in planning, urban design and development workshops as required

• Ability to lead and manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects to successful delivery of outcomes within budget and programme.

• Proven track record in seeking, securing, maintaining and managing positive and successful liaison with clients.

• Strong ability to work either in a team, or alone with positive results from either scenario.

• Ability to mentor and train more junior staff, either in the course of a project or through a separate programme.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Design, Urban Policy or Town Planning. Masters in one of these disciplines is required

• RTPI (or any other planning association membership) would be advantageous.
