JOB PURPOSE
Engineering Geologist required for office-based position with project based field work required as needed. Candidate must be able and willing to travel regionally as required. Strong focus on structural mapping in the field, as well as reporting and data analysis for geological mapping projects. In-situ testing experience is a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Preparation - Review project requirements, organize and implement appropriate techniques. Assist in the proposals and planning, and prepare method statement and quality plans for field investigations. Develop tracking sheets to provide assigned team members on projects.
Project Execution - Act as lead geologist onsite for large scale or high-profile projects as required. Responsible for technical quality of completed field works for delegated projects tasks. Monitor and prioritize project planning and workload between engineering, operations, laboratory, commercial, and consulting departments to ensure efficient and adequate resources are allocated to achieve project deadlines. Liaise with site team to collect information and data from ground investigation sites.
Field Testing - Responsible for reviewing and approving processing of in-situ testing and borehole logs for client submission. Guide engineering team members in interpretation of processed in-situ tests and report writing. Responsible for field testing equipment, its maintenance, operation and inventory control in addition to technical worksheets for test reports and calculations
Mentoring - Monitoring and mentoring the field geologists and geologists.
Geology / Engineering - Assess and understand the geological setting of the site when determining engineering soil /rock parameters. Geo hazards to be considered while providing conclusions. Work closely with Engineers on deliverables. Strong experience with structural geology and field mapping is key, including geohazards and geomorphological.
Reporting - Prepare report, laboratory program and obtain approval by client after discussion with Principal/Senior Engineering Geologist/Project Engineer. Develop foundation soil parameters, design assessment, engineering analyses, mapping reports, and prepare final report for approval with Project Engineer. Review and check report and engineering analyses of others.
Client Delivery - Provide service in accordance with standard practices to meet client’s request and contract specifications. Responsible for data management from site, laboratory and office to ensure appropriate QA/QC is performed on project deliverables.
Project Management - Product Manager for selected Fugro small to mid-size projects as needed, coordinating with other departments, attending client meetings, tracking progress, and invoicing. Liaise with Commercial Department for any contractual / commercial issues.
Resource Management - Compile and updated reference library folder for training and knowledge sharing with team members and other departments. Keep up to date on new industry technology, standards and procedures.
QHSSE Compliance - Ensure that Fugro policies and procedures are understood, implemented and adhered to by all employees.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Education - Master - Engineering degree – Civil Engineering in Geotechnical or Geology
Working experience - 3-8 years
Experience in Geotechnical investigation and laboratory testing, derivation of parameters, in depth understanding of soil mechanics, familiar with rock mechanics, basic foundation computations, foundation testing, etc. Strong experience with field geological mapping and associated reporting and data analysis is preferred.
Project based field work may be required regionally, but primarily office-based position. Must be willing and able to travel as needed.
