 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Leads multiple disciplines/technologies/processes, keeping cost, schedule, and performance objectives in mind.
2. Assist portfolio planning and long-term strategy.
3. Performs management activities to attract, hire, supervise, and develop individual contributors and supervisors to meeting the goals of the group.
4. Participates at external meetings and presents at large internal meetings/forums.
5. Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
6. Understand. Create. Simplify.
7. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
B.S. in Engineering field or equivalent combination of education/experience
10+ years of related engineering or management experience
Technical expertise in one or more engineering disciplines/technologies
Demonstrated ability to design/produce/support successful products/processes
Proven ability and strong desire to develop employees and lead projects
Ability to define general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

You will join our Building Department

Ramboll is committed to building our business here in the Middle East and to improve our capture rate for projects in the region. We are taking the next step in this regard with the addition of a new Design Manager .

The Design Manager will be part of the Middle East Buildings Team. They will report to the buildings department Design Director.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Be able to engage with the client on behalf of every discipline related to their packages
  • Outline the package scope and ensure full understanding of deliverables, timings and client and authority requirements
  • Take full ownership of deliverables register of the package and ensure all disciplines and sub consultants deliver to that register
  • Review and check deliverables register for each package prior to implementation
  • Drive coherence and quality of the package submissions, ensuring synergies between disciplines
  • Review and approve all individual submissions that arrive from the disciplines ensuring that a fully integrated design approach has been followed (synergies and compliance)
  • Upwards - report to the PM any deliverables deficiencies, scope gaps, timing issues or resourcing issues.
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure quality and integrity of the package’s submissions adhering to the design assurance protocol
  • Lead all technical coordination meetings with client and authorities with regards to the lead package
  • Lead all internal coordination meetings with the Architect, internal Ramboll team and Subconsultants
  • Ensure all disciplines are obtaining the required information from their design party counterparts as needed throughout the project lifecycle
  • Responsible for maintaining a design action tracker to track discipline progress and ensure all design team requirements and client brief requirements are met
  • Work closely with the BIM delivery lead to ensure the BIM Model is well coordinated and resolve clashes as they arise
  • Drive digitalisation in design
  • Manage and liaise with all discipline core leads with the appropriate integrity to ensure non bias approach to any discipline (independent approach)
  • Review at the request of the PM efficiencies and resource overruns for disciplines but also being proactive to highlighting resource deficiencies or capacity issues within disciplines
  • Maintain a compliance and checking list (register) to ensure adequate audit trail through the review process (checklist)
  • Monitoring changes in design direction and reporting to the Project Manager
  • Carrying out Independent Design Reviews
  • Ensuring that MOM are being kept through technical meetings and review and approve prior issuing via Document controller

  • Bachelor's and/ or higher Degree in Construction related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, MBA, or related fields is a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in the construction industry with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Design management.
  • Sound people management skills and ability to harmonize working relationships between team members from different cultural and technical backgrounds.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge and ability to engage with technical experts from different backgrounds

Job Purpose

To manage the development and commercialization of new digital platforms offering differentiated customer experience and data insights by working closely with internal stakeholders using agile development tools.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and commercialise new business platforms leveraging on digital technologies
1.    Develop outside in thinking from a customer perspective to implement open platforms for the bank.
2.    Create robust business impact analysis of platforms to justify the investments and justify returns.
3.    Construct a clear delivery roadmap with engagement of all stakeholders, track and escalate any potential roadblocks.
4.    Develop close working relationship with stakeholders especially in business and IT to identify new opportunities.
5.    Use feedback mechanisms and commercial reviews to change and optimise the existing platforms. 


Implement new approaches to platform development
1.    Usage of tools like Asana, Confluence, Slack to implement proper project management and team collaboration.
2.    Act as a role model to implement new tools like Agile delivery and help other stakeholders to embrace the same.
3.    To keep customer experience and data analytics and the centre of every platform development and change initiative.

 About the Role


The Category Manager is responsible for the entire IT Category Management, Sourcing, and Strategy for GEMS Schools across UAE & Qatar and the GEMS Corporate Office.   • Define GEMS UAE & Qatar IT category strategy, setting performance objectives, and monitoring progress. Also actively engaging with and securing support from key local stakeholders (SSC/Schools).
  • Ensures market intelligence is updated regularly and ensures that any changes are updated in the category strategy and appropriate steps are taken to mitigate any potential impact that this information may have on the organisation.
  • Produces annual Category management business plans, ensuring that full alignment between GEMS UAE & Qatar requirements and Procurement targets.
  • Ensure that GEMS UAE & Qatar category management is aligned with GEMS UAE & Qatar corporate strategies in cooperation with business planning and strategy and delivers results to the bottom line.
  • Actively participate and contribute to the development of procurement as a value-adding function within the GEMS UAE & Qatar organisation.
  • Provide expertise, leadership, and support to GEMS MENASA organisations to drive overall productivity program, promoting best practice sharing, benchmarking, and market intelligence.

Expected Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, CIPS level 4 desirable.

Expected Experience:

  •  3-5 years of experience in a similar capacity.
