BasicFunction and Responsibility:

·         Provide one-to-one tutoring and small-group activitiesonline and/or in person.

·         Oversee and encourage the use of the university’slearning resources including printed, audio-visual, and computer-basedequipment, and other learning support methods and materials as they aredeveloped.

CharacteristicDuties and Responsibilities:

Preparation:

·         Prepare paper and online support material to beused in support and review sessions.

Administration:

·         Assist at risk students by informing them oftheir status, monitoring their attendance, and developing their language acquisitionskills.

·         Market Success Zone services to enhance theperformance of students registered in all foundation courses.

·         Chart learners’ second language acquisition intheir English classes to their major coursework whether they are in an Arabicor English stream major by formulating an independent language learning plan.

·         Enhance student success through increasingmotivation and developing their confidence and soft skills.

·         Coach learners in specific areas of need insecond language acquisition, for example, self- monitoring, memorizing newvocabulary, and/or seeking out conversational practice activities.

·         Provide access to physical and online resourcesthat learners can use to develop their second language learning strategies.

·         Update SharePoint and Blackboard on a regularbasis to reflect the services and student visits.

·         Provide workshops online and in-class on soft skillsand language acquisition skills.

·         Participate in organizing and planningextra-curricular student initiatives and events that enhance student successand the acquisition of English skills.

·         Provide online and in-class instruction whenneeded.

Communication:

·         Communicate with learners about their individualstatus ad progress in second language acquisition so that learners can see theprogress they are making over time.

·         Liaise with the Foundation Program StudentAffairs Section, Student Learning Support Center, Student Placement andProgress committee, and Special Needs Support Center.

·         Counsel students who struggle with their Englishlanguage classes in terms of motivation, participation, and/or expectations.

Assessment

·         Report on the attendanceand performance of students bi-weekly, monthly or by end of the semester basedon the data required.

·          Evaluatethe efficiency of academic support services through student participation,surveys and focus groups, etc.
        
Qualifications        
        
        

·         A Master's degree in TESOL (Teachers of Englishfor Students of Other Languages), Applied Linguistics or ELT from a reputablyaccredited university/program from an English medium of instruction institution.

·         Experience in tutoring at the high school or tertiarylevel, student support, testing and assessment, instructional technology, andcurriculum and materials development.

·         Ability to adapt to and participate in differentcultures and learning environments.

·         Ability to contribute to an innovative andchallenging academic instructional program is an asset.

·         Ability to work independently, and/or in a groupsetting both online and on campus.

·         Proficient in Information CommunicationTechnology.

Job Summary:

The Education Research Center (ERC) at Qatar University invites applications for the Research Assistant/Associate/Full Professor positions in the area of K-12, higher education, assessment and evaluation, and online learning, starting Spring 2021. The Research positions are research track academic ranks for individuals engaged in research and who will be assigned no or minimal teaching responsibilities. Aspirants will have a track record in educational research and are expected to carry out extensive and high impact research in the field of education.
- Support the ERC in ongoing research projects,
– Lead and conduct original and innovative research,
– Lead applications for competitive research grants to secure funding,
– Initiate and lead research projects in collaboration with ERC stakeholders,
– Produce team-based research outcomes, and
– Conduct certain teaching obligations (if and when required).
        
Qualifications        
        
        

- Candidates must be Arabic-English bilinguals and have:
– Candidates must have a PhD/doctorate degree in any education-related discipline from an accredited university
– Good research record in top tier ranking peer reviewed journals
– Experience in writing and securing research grants
– Candidate with teaching experience is preferred
– Proven academic record for appointment as Assistant/Associate professor in Teacher Education
– Possess knowledge, skill and expertise in conducting research within the field of teacher learning and development of pre-service teachers, K-12 in-service teachers, and teacher educators.
– Familiarity and rich experience in both school and university settings within a Middle Eastern context, and preferably, in the Qatari context.
Preference will be given to those candidates who can show competence in digital learning and teaching, as well as demonstrate prior research in this area.

The Agro-ecologist / Conservation Agriculture Expert reports to the FAO Programme Director in KSA.

 

Technical Focus

 

Capacity development and knowledge management for Agro-ecology / Conservation Agriculture.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

The Agro-ecologist / Conservation Agriculture Expert will contribute to the accomplishment of outputs of the project component on “Development of rain-fed cereals production” and to relevant outputs from Coffee, Subtropical fruits, and Rose. More specific, the consultant will carry out the following tasks:

    Conduct comprehensive situation analysis of the application of agro-ecology and conservation agriculture principles, technologies and practises among smallholder farmers in the project target regions and identify challenges and opportunities.
    Undertake benchmarking on international best practices for application of agro-ecology and conservation agriculture principles, technologies and practices among small scale farmers and lessons learnt especially in countries with similar context as Saudi Arabia.
    Undertake comprehensive review of all relevant strategies, policies and regulatory framework and identify the necessary enabling environment to increase application of agro-ecology and conservation agriculture among smallholder farmers.
    Develop the guideline and action plan for introducing agro-ecology and conservation agriculture within smallholder farming systems with the aim of integrating cultural, traditional and indigenous knowledge with scientific agricultural best practises.
    Develop the framework of criteria and indicators for assessing suitable conservation agriculture technologies and practices for smallholder farmers.
    Identify and select suitable conservation agriculture technologies and practices for cultivation crops within the project target regions.
    Select and pilot conservation agriculture technologies and practices among smallholder farmers in the project target regions and document their performance.
    Promote successful conservation agriculture technologies and practices and support their adoption by smallholder farmers in the project target regions.
    Develop and deliver need-based technical training for MoEWA and stakeholders on agro-ecology and conservation agriculture.
    Develop measures to promote practice of zero tillage and its crucial role in saving irrigation water for crops in target regions.

 

 

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

 

 

Minimum Requirements

    Advanced university degree in agriculture, agronomy, agro-ecology or any related field.
    At least 10 years of relevant work experience in management of agro-ecology and/or conservation Agriculture.
    Working knowledge of English. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
