Charge Nurse, Dar Al Shifa Hospital, Kuwait

Job Scope:

Responsible for the coordination and supervision of administrative and clinical care activities during the assigned shift. Assesses and anticipates the health needs of patients and their families in collaboration with other health care team members. Ensures that services are provided in adherence with the hospital and nursing policies, procedures, guidelines and accreditation standards. Supports the mission and vision of Dar Al Shifa Hospital and the Nursing Department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides direction to the nursing staff in the delivery of care and assists them as needed.
• Acts as a role model, preceptor, and resource person in the application of standards and philosophy of nursing practices.
• Allocates staff for patient care and reorganizes assignments based upon changing in patient needs and acuity.
• Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in directing and coordinating care and unit activities.
• Responds to patient/family concerns, consulting with nursing/customer services supervisor as needed.
• Oversees and coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Identifies problems on the shift and acts appropriately according to the situation.
• Ensures appropriate documentation of all patient care given on the shift.
• Ensures all nursing staffs are aware, promote and support the patient and family rights.
• Monitors and promotes unit patient and family education activities.
• Maintains effective communication with all stakeholders using appropriate structures/mechanisms accordingly.
• Maintains confidentiality of information from unauthorized persons.
• Verifies diet lists and ensures therapeutic diets are provided as per doctor’s order.
• Fosters a productive working environment and encourages good relationship with other departments.
• Ensures availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment required to meet patient care needs.
• Oversees and coaches new staff to the unit as to the pattern of activity and care provided on the shift.

Qualifications and Expereince:

• Bachelor degree in Nursing.
• A minimum experience of 4 years as an RN, with 2 years experience in the assigned specialty.
• Knowledge: Medical, Surgical, pediatric, obstetrics & gynecology.
