Overview
The world of retail is going through a rapid but exciting transformation-in technology that enables commerce, consumer behaviors and expectations, and retailers' ability to deepen their connection with and value to consumers. Mastercard has established a Merchants and Commerce team with a diverse strategic and consultative workforce of world-class relationship managers, problem-solvers, and technologists to meet retailers' and other partners' needs, opportunities, and ambitions in this rapidly developing market.

In Eastern Europe, the Middle East & Africa region, the Merchant & Commerce team is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships with merchants in key segments, including Airlines, Hotels, Online Travel Agents, Retail, Quick Service Restaurants, Retail Fintechs, etc. We focus on building strategic partnerships and driving agreed strategic imperatives and business development initiatives for the key players across these industry verticals.

As we continue to build our Merchant and Commerce team, we seek to attract highly motivated individuals with strong achievement orientation, intellectual curiosity, openness, resilience, diligence, and the ability to marshal resources effectively. We hire talent that enables our team to compete and differentiate based on customer intimacy, product and solution strength, and partnership orientation.

The Vice President- Business Development- Merchant & Commerce, will be part of the team responsible for identifying and developing Mastercard's positioning and growth in these segments by working with Airlines, Hotels, Online Travel Agents, Retail, Quick Service Restaurants, Retail Fintechs, and other key retail stakeholders. The person will actively drive current and future strategy for the Merchant & Commerce team regionally and will drive & manage relationships with key players.
Role:

In this client-facing position, you will:

• Set team objectives and take responsibility for driving sales and net revenue targets
• Provide direction for overall strategies, messaging, and proposals for customers
• Lead and manage key customer relationships at the senior level
• Review reports on customer's existing business to determine opportunities to grow your customer portfolio
• Provide consultative analysis, industry insights, and thought leadership to the customer
• Represent the voice of the market and customers to internal stakeholders
• Oversee implementation of sales plans, including business development, marketing, and product management
• Negotiate the customer business agreement process
• Formally supervise and coach several groups/teams and influence how the function is structured
• Help identify, coach, and groom top talent and pro-actively develop employees as organizational resources

All About You
• Currently in a senior position in the retail industry or has significant expertise in partnering with businesses in that industry.
• Can operate in white spaces and come up with new business models
• Broad experience with sales strategy development and execution in complex/global accounts
• Extensive track record in achieving success/profitability for key customer accounts
• Track record of building and growing complex partnerships
• Experience in negotiating challenging situations and closing complex deals
• Payment industry experience/understanding of payment and information flows
• A high level of business acumen and thought leadership is required.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management, able to navigate complex conversations and engage at C-Level within customer organizations
