About the role

Black & White Engineering is a multi-award-winning engineering consultancy, with over 500 employees in teams based in our UK, European, Middle East and Asia Pacific offices. We have been providing a wide range of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering consultancy services since 2007.

Our engineering expertise reaches across all sectors of the construction industry, providing pragmatic and practical design solutions to ensure our projects are spatially and operationally efficient. Our design process fully considers the installation and maintenance practicalities on site.

As a business, our ambition is to be a leading global MEP consultancy and as a purposeful employer, our Legal Team is critical to our overall success. The team is established in Dubai but provides services to the whole group, accordingly your role will be multi-national.

The purpose of this role is to support our legal, compliance, and commercial team, ensuring our legal obligations as a business are met as we continue to grow. This role should work in collaboration with the Local Directors, CFO and Assistant Legal Counsel to ensure our company, corporate, and contract standards are delivered to, consistently and accurately.

The ideal candidate will hold an appropriate degree in Law or an equivalent professional qualification and should have relevant experience in contract law, business compliance, corporate governance, and general counsel.

You are encouraged to escalate recommendations and plans to ensure that we are providing best-practice support to our teams, in the delivery of your responsibilities and in the smooth running of the Legal function.  
Requirements

    Relevant degree in Law or Professional Qualification of an equivalent level.
    1-3 years+ of experience in a similar function.
    Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts.
    Prior experience with best practice UK compliance laws.
    Excellent report-writing and English communication skills.
    Highly organised with strong attention to detail
    Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools and programs.
    Self-starter demonstrating commitment, a strong work ethic and a “can do” attitude.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
    Ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders and authorities across our global offices.
    Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to follow-up and manage difficult clients.

Responsibilities

    Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a variety of contracts, including professional services agreements, sub-consultancy agreements, NDA’s, Collateral Warranties etc.
    Undertaking relevant research and implementing policies and procedures to ensure B&W are adhering to best practice compliance obligations.
    Ensuring company insurances are up to date, and be involved with procuring these where necessary.
    Managing company policies to minimise risk.
    Providing accurate and relevant advice to the senior management team when required.
    Conducting legal research and analysis.
    Assisting our global expansion through creation of new subsidiaries and/or providing ongoing support in relation to existing subsidiaries.
    Staying up to date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect the MEP engineering industry.
    The ability to communicate complex legal issues in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
    Maintain and update existing templates and contracting processes.
    Support internal projects, training, processes, and drive cross-functional efforts.
    Assist with corporate governance efforts, maintaining training programs related to the company, including policies and Code of Conduct for all employees.
    Willingness to support with all general business management tasks.

Qualifications

    Relevant degree in Law or Professional Qualification of an equivalent level.
