Head of Business Development

Helios Towers is a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company, having established one of the most extensive tower portfolios across Africa. It builds, owns and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 8 markets in Africa, Oman in the Middle East.

Overview

As Head of Business Development, the individual will work in the Commercial Department reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, leading both day-to-day activities and longer-term projects. The Head of Business Development will lead a diverse range of activities such as due diligence on assets, evaluation of M&A opportunities, and review of new capital projects, strategic relationship building and horizon spotting.

This role will lead projects in each of the following areas:

• M&A
• Greenfield business development initiatives
• Corporate strategy
• New product development

Location: Dubai

Role Responsibilities:

As the Head of Business Development, you will be responsible for:

• Direct / operationalise the strategy to have direct impact to the achievement of results for the function.
• Lead functional operational delivery to produce a major impact on the organisation in the short to mid-term (e.g. 1 – 3 years).
• Employs functional management and leadership knowledge to lead the team through application of job knowledge.
• Ensure appropriate selection and organisation of talent for the department and sub-functions
• Coach, review and delegate work to lower level professionals within the function, is the principal SME.
• Leading origination of new greenfield and M&A opportunities
• Establishing and growing stakeholder network in HT’s existing and new markets
• Leading M&A processes and acting as the key contact point between internal and external stakeholders
• Able to utilise skills to influence senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the function.

Requirements for the Role:

To succeed in the role, you will be/will have:

• Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience within corporate finance/ investment banking (in-house corporate development, M&A/ECM advisory, leveraged finance, project finance or equity research), strategy consulting, private equity, Big 4 transaction advisory services or a combination of the above
• Experience within telecom sector either in-house or as an advisor required
• Experience of working in emerging markets preferably Africa and the Middle East

Desired Skills

• Degree from a reputable university
• Post-graduate qualification e.g. MBA desirable
• Fluency in Arabic or French desirable
