Role Purpose

The IB MYP/DP Language Acquisition teacher will endorse and practice the philosophy, pedagogy, research, and innovation aspects of the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, and will work as a collaborative member of the DP and MYP Teams to ensure that the day-to-day operation and development of learning at NEOM Community School are carried out in accordance with the aims of the NEOM Education, Research, and Innovation Sector. They will be accountable for upholding the aims and vision of the whole school in this phase, and will support the work of the school in contributing to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Vision 2030.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach engaging DP/MYP English language acquisition classes. • Observe students' individual learning progress and outcomes, and assess their individual learning needs to inform planning for future learning. • Maintain accurate records of students' learning and progress. Experience with Toddle is advantageous. • Prepare resources, manage, and maintain the organization of a high-quality learning space to support the IB curriculum and meet the needs of all students. • Demonstrate effective classroom management that reflects an understanding of the academic, social, and emotional dimensions of learning. • Collaborate closely with other teaching staff to support students' language development across the curriculum. • Support students in content areas, providing direct language support in subject area classes through co-teaching, co-planning, and small group instruction. • Administer WIDA assessments and other relevant language proficiency tests to evaluate students' language skills, track progress, and provide timely feedback to students and their families. • Attend all appropriate professional training and development in accordance with the school's needs. • Stay current with research, trends, and best practices in language acquisition, and actively engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, sharing gained knowledge with colleagues. • Participate in Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) as required, at the discretion of the Head of School. Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.

 

 

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Experience	Educational Background:   • A specialist, with up-to-date knowledge of language learning pedagogy. • Minimum of 10 years of recent and relevant Secondary School classroom experience. • Excellent English communication skills. • Experience in teaching students with diverse needs. • Strong classroom management skills. • Competence in using technology for both learning and information management purposes. • Knowledge of the WIDA Framework. • Sense of humor and openness to flexibility.   Collaboration and Communication: Strong collaboration and communication skills for effective teamwork. Experience working with diverse learning needs and creating an inclusive environment. Curriculum Development: Expertise in curriculum development based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. Assessment and Reporting: Proficient in developing and administering assessments; ability to report on student progress Professional Development and Adaptability: Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on educational trends. Adaptability to integrate new teaching methodologies and approaches.
Qualifications	Qualifications ESSENTIAL • B.Ed./B.A in Education (or equivalent), with additional classroom teacher qualification     in Language Acquisition (or equivalent).   DESIRABLE • MA/M.ED second degree or further relevant qualification. • Experience in an international school environment. • Knowledge and experience of the IB Diploma and Middle Years Programmes. • Evidence of continued IB professional learning and development beyond initial qualification.
