Description

KAUST is seeking candidates for a joint faculty position within the Physical Science and Engineering Division (PSE) and Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division (BESE), aimed at establishing a world-class research program in air pollution and atmospheric chemistry.

Individuals with expertise in the following research domains are particularly encouraged to apply:

• Investigating the interplay between air pollution and atmospheric chemistry, and its ramifications for climate change.

• Assessing the toxicology, exposomics, and public health implications of air pollution

• Analyzing emissions from diverse food systems, including agriculture, animal husbandry, and waste disposal.

• Exploring the impact of non-carbon emissions on climate change and strategies for their mitigation.

Successful applicants should be prepared to address these key challenges with a multi-disciplinary approach and to engage with different programs and research initiatives across the university’s divisions.

The research topics and outcomes should be in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to Saudi Vision 2030 by focusing on one or more of KAUST’s strategic pillars:

About the PSE and BESE Division and KAUST

The Physical Science and Engineering Division comprises seven Degree Programs: Materials Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, Earth Science and Engineering, Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. These disciplines provide the foundation for our Division's quest to address some of the major challenges that we face in the world today, including those related to energy and the environment. Specifically, our faculty members and their research teams work on topics as diverse as photovoltaics, supercapacitors, porous materials for carbon capture and membranes, clean combustion, atmospheric modeling, and new polymers and composites for smart materials and structures.

The Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division comprises five Degree Programs: Plant Science, Bioscience, Environmental Science and Engineering, Marine Science, and Bioengineering. BESE's mission is to create an enabling platform and intellectual space for knowledge and advanced technologies through research that is aligned with KAUST's four thrusts (food, energy, water, and the environment). Two strategic research themes that allow for a natural alignment with these thrusts are Adaptive Biology and Environmental Systems. In particular, research in the Division is organized around five focal areas: genomics, epigenetics, imaging and structural biology, functional biology, and environmental systems.

• A relevant Ph.D. degree.

• Demonstrated track record in effectively managing research projects and publishing impactful papers.

Teaching and Service Responsibilities

• Selected candidates are expected to develop an original and rigorous teaching program.

• Selected candidates are expected to show active involvement in service to KAUST across all aspects of academic life.

Research Responsibilities

KAUST offers access to numerous research funding opportunities for Principal Investigators to establish successful research programs, including participation in national and international scientific collaborations and impact-driven initiatives.

• Statement of research interests, balancing strong basic science with alignment to KAUST's strategy for accelerating impact and Saudi Arabia's national RDI priorities.

• Statement of teaching experience and interests.

• Four to six potential referees' names, affiliations, and contact details.

• Copies of the most relevant publications (up to five).

• Two citation reports (Web of Science and Scopus).
