Description
The DEWA R&D Center in Dubai is seeking a senior researcher to work on the design, fabrication, and performance evaluation of new generation solar PV modules.
Specifically, the researcher will work on the following topics:
i) Design and develop advanced module manufacturing concepts for applications under desert conditions.
ii) Optimize cell interconnection and encapsulation technologies for BIPV and utility-scale applications.
iii) Assuming leading role in the day-to-day operations of a state-of-the-art module manufacturing line at the DEWA R&D facility.
iv) Lead the research activities of scientists and technicians during the optimisation of module fabrication technologies.
v) Characterization and testing of solar cells and modules (recording IV curves and electroluminescence images, carrying out stability (PID, LID & LETID) and climatic chamber tests.
vi) Develop test procedures for the performance & reliability testing of new generation PV modules.
vii) Procurement of materials relevant to module manufacturing.
viii) Disseminate R&D outcomes in various forms including journal article publications and presenting papers at national and international conferences.
The project requires a sound understanding of the fundamental issues and present challenges relating to the design and manufacturing of PV modules that are exposed to harsh environmental conditions in the Middle East. The position also requires the candidate to work independently under leadership of senior staff.
The candidate should be comfortable working as member of a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects across multiple areas but should also be able to manage individual tasks independently. The ability to conduct innovative research across disciplines are highly desirable qualities.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in in a relevant discipline area such as Physics, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 (ten) years of experience with the fabrication of solar PV modules as well as performance & reliability studies (IEC standards).
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in module fabrication processes, materials selection, integration and testing.
- Experience with operation / troubleshooting / maintaining processing tools.
- A sound history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, grant applications or patents.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in the design, manufacturing, and optimization of advanced bifacial module concepts.
- Demonstrated experience in performance & reliability studies of advanced solar cells and module concepts.
- Candidate with previous experience in the commercial manufacturing and optimization of PV module performance and reliability will be strongly preferred.
- Hands-on lab skills and knowledge on safety procedures in a module manufacturing line.
- Familiar with module characterization techniques: visual inspection, I-V, QE, climatic chambers.
