Job overview
The Arbor School is seeking a highly motivated Head of Sixth Form to lead the opening of the Sixth Form in the newly opened Secondary School. The Head of Sixth Form responsibility is to support the Assistant Head of Pastoral Care with aspects of the school’s mission, values and beliefs in action, and support the Assistant Head of Curriculum to ensure student’s academic data is analysed and curriculum needs are met for Sixth Form students. They will work closely with Key Stage 5 students ensuring that students’ emotional, social and personal wellbeing is monitored so that appropriate and effective support, guidance and challenge is provided throughout, including transition into and out of the Key Stage.
JOB SUMMARY
· Doing all that you can to ensure that you safeguard and promote the welfare of students (in line with Arbor’s Safeguarding framework/policy/Code of Conduct).
· Positively and actively promoting the Arbor vision, mission, and values.
· Ensuring your practice is in line with the Arbor Staff Handbook, the Arbor Middle Leadership Principles.
· Implementing, where appropriate, school policies, procedures and expected practices, as identified by the Executive and the Senior Leadership Team at the Arbor School.
· Ensuring the overall well-being and academic progress of students within this age range. Responsible for providing guidance, support, and leadership to both students and staff members. Led by the Assistant Head of Pastoral Care who will work closely with them identifying which level of support different students need.
· Undertake specific operational tasks as agreed upon with Assistant Head of Pastoral including, but not limited to, the following areas:
o They will have a strong oversight of the transition and induction process as students move into the school both at the start of the year, and mid-year entry points. They will work closely with the relevant staff members to ensure smooth and successful transitions occur, and a strong induction programme is planned and delivered effectively.
o The Head of Sixth Form will need to work closely with Secondary Senior Leadership Team to develop a comprehensive plan for the sixth form section. This includes discussing the curriculum, subject offerings, staffing requirements, infrastructure needs, and financial considerations.
o Develop strategies to attract potential students to the Sixth Form section. Market the offerings, conduct open days or information sessions, and establish an admissions process. Determine admission criteria, conduct interviews or assessments, and select students based on merit and suitability.
o Foster collaboration with colleges, universities, and other educational institutions to provide opportunities for higher education or vocational training. Oversee the Futures Counsellor to ensure a strong, thoughtful programme is developed.
o Establish systems to monitor the wellbeing progress and performance of Sixth Form students, including regular assessments, progress reports, and parent-teacher meetings.
o Act as a key support point for students within this key stage. They monitor and promote student welfare, ensuring their emotional, social, and academic needs are met. Establish positive relationships with students.
o Collaborate with teachers to support the academic progress of students within their year group. Analyse student data, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to support individual students or a group of students.
o Help to maintain a positive and respectful learning environment supporting tutors with particular students. Enforce school policies, manage student behavior, and address any behavioural issues. Work with students, parents, and staff members to resolve conflicts and promote a safe and inclusive school community.
o Provide pastoral care and guidance to students when appropriate. Offer support and advice on personal and social issues, helping students navigate challenges and make positive choices working closely with the tutor, and guided by the Assistant Head of Pastoral Care. Co-ordinate counselling services, mentorship programmes, or other initiatives to enhance students' well-being and personal development.

REQUIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Native-level English language skills
Bachelor’s degree with a PGCE in Education with QTS or equivalent
Masters, NPQML or equivalent
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in middle leadership in the UK or a reputable British school overseas and a strong record of professional development relevant to A Level and BTEC qualifications
A track record of outstanding GSCE and/or A-Level examination results.
