Job Description
To build on the existing customer base by providing excellent customer service while increasing the company’s market in the Sub-Saharan Africa Exports region, through sound management of Country Managers, Agents/distributors and customers. Develop growth strategies and detailed sales plans for each market segment within Sub-Saharan Africa Exports. A natural leader with a forward-thinking intelligence to continuously generate profitable plans and strategies for identifying and growing sales potential.
- Develop and Implement strategies for growth defined with clearly mapped out opportunities for the short, medium and long term.
- Maintain close contact with the Global BDM, product and segment experts when developing the longer-term plan for the Sub-Saharan Africa Export region.
- Analyse, present and manage strategic growth initiatives
- Challenge current road to market and pursue fresh ideas to further cement our market dominance
- Establish strategic alliances with OEMs and EPCs, cultivating long term commitment and co-operation for mutual benefit and added value.
- Establish and maintain contracts across the Region appropriate for the successful and profitable management of the Region.
- Prepare and achieve annual orders and sales budgets.
- Prepare Sales plans and maintain a high level of forecast accuracy with monthly planning and reporting.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the Exports Region, as well as competitor activities.
- Establish strategic alliances with end-users where the establishment of long-term commitment and co-operation for mutual benefit and mutual added value, (versus other competitor suppliers), will enhance and sustain the business and growth ambitions over the medium term.
- Develop Succession Plans which should be updated regularly
- Ensure that the staff and management teams of sales organizations within your area of responsibility are properly led, managed, rewarded and motivated and developed to achieve and exceed sales, profit, margin and cash targets.
- Review the performance of subordinates; identify training needs, drive the use of Personal Development.
- Work closely with the Group to ensure that the principles, practices, and protocols through which, and by which, John Crane will be managed globally, are fully adopted within his area of responsibility.
- Effectively manage relationships with internal and external customers and all other stakeholders

- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field (MBA Advantage)
- Large professional experience in Sales, Projects and Business Developments.
- Experience working in African Countries.
- In depth “on the ground” experience specific to the Oil and Gas Industry of making business happen in Africa, with a proven track record in Strategic Selling in a complex technical/commercial environment.
- Tech/Commercial profile with strong experience within rotating equipment (pumps, turbomachinery, mechanical seals, etc.)
- Ability to influence and establish new relationships as well as strengthen existing relationships
- Strong understanding and experience of dealing with commercial agreements and contracts
- Ability to develop strong growth plans for new products and new markets
- John Crane’s Product knowledge will be an advantage
