Role Purpose:



Reporting into the Head of Sales & Distribution, the Sales & Distribution Manager, GCC, will manage key relationships with Exhibitor programming teams/cinema managers, to provide insights and analysis on local market trends in the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Djibouti and Ethiopia, to identify new opportunities and ensure our film bookings and in-cinema exposure are optimized, to maximize the revenue potential for each film.


The Sales & Distribution Manager, GCC, is primarily responsible for negotiating optimal bookings for our films in cinemas, based on strategy and data insights, and placement of trade marketing materials (trailers, posters, custom installations etc.).


The individual will be required to work closely with the Technical Operations Manager to plan distribution requirements for each film’s release, including censorship and version/format (3D, IMAX etc.) requirements.


The Sales & Distribution Manager will oversee the Logistics Exec in ensuring all materials reach their destination ahead of schedule and within budget.


The Sales & Distribution Manager will also manage the Snr Sales & Distribution Exec, Middle East, who is responsible for ensuring all the Studio’s Sales systems are updated each week, as well as MAF Distribution’s internal tools. The Snr Sales & Distribution Exec will also support the Managers in their weekly reporting requirements.



Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



Sales

  • Identify and develop excellent working relationships with all Exhibitors to ensure optimal treatment of our films in the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, identifying new ways to collaborate to optimize revenue for all parties.
  • Build a relationship-development strategy for priority Exhibitors in the market.
  • Stay on top of local market trends and provide analysis and feedback to drive local release strategies.
  • Support Head of Sales & Distribution with a variety of Sales-related activity including:
    • Negotiating film bookings
    • Estimating film performance, i.e. opening weekend box office, full-run forecasts etc.
    • Contribute to the dating/release strategy.
    • Film performance tracking, analysis, and weekly reporting
  • Oversee the Snr Sales & Distribution Exec in their weekly system updates (internal and external).
  • Work closely with the marketing team to identify the optimal quantity and type of in-cinema advertising materials and ensure optimal placement of all materials in cinema (trailers, posters, custom installations etc.) and their digital channels.
  • Review the existing trade marketing processes in the markets and identify any new trends, developments, and opportunities as they arise.
  • Opportunity to support and contribute to the development of various in-house data projects.

Distribution

  • Liaise with the Technical Manager to order and schedule the distribution of films in relevant formats (2D, 3D, IMAX etc.) to cinemas.
  • Maintain a 360˚, watertight approach to content security at all times.
  • Oversee the Logistics Exec in the timely delivery of all materials ahead of schedule and within budget.

Ad Hoc

  • Travel as needed to censorship screenings in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, sharing feedback with the Technical Operations Manager regarding edit requirements.
  • Reviewing Arabic trailer and feature subtitles (if possible).

Functional/Technical Competencies



  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is essential, fluency in Arabic ideal but not essential.
  • Experience of operating in a regionally controlled structure, where developing strong relationships with other managers is essential.
  • Experience in the cinema industry highly preferable, or at the minimum a related business, such as media and entertainment.
  • Experience of liaising with third party agencies, Government agencies and media preferred.
  • Strong IT literacy (especially excel).

Personal characteristics

  • Excellent people and relationship management skills. The ability to build strong collaborative working relationships in often challenging circumstances is a requisite skill for this role.
  • Excellent communicator, with a level of gravitas that will facilitate good conflict resolution and problem solving.

  • A ‘hands on’ team player not afraid to take on and execute a variety of different tasks as needed.

Minimum experience

  • At least 5-7 years of experience (preferably in the Film/TV/Media industry) in an operations, sales or marketing role. Ideally already at a managerial level or similar experience.
