The Role of Director of Design and Construction:
We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Director of Design and Construction to join our Four Seasons Corporate Office team in Dubai!
This role reports to the Vice President Design and Construction – Middle East and Africa and will be responsible the oversight of all design, architecture and construction related activities for new-build and CAPEX projects within the Middle East and Africa region. You will be responsible for decision making, problem-solving, project design development and management necessary to keep each project on schedule, in budget and to resolve differences between stakeholders, from project inception through completion, hand-over and opening. You will also contribute regionally relevant architectural, and construction related matters and changes to brand standards to provide consistency throughout the brand.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Being a key point of contact and Project Lead for Four Seasons, Owners and consultants for new and major capital projects within the MEA region, providing guidance and technical advice on all design and construction related matters
Coordinating with multi-disciplinary Four Seasons stakeholders and subject matter experts, including Design & Innovation, Engineering, Technology Systems, Food & Beverage, Spa, Residential, Operations, etc. Ensuring coordinated timely feedback and direction is provided to Owners and design consultants
Preparation of project area programs (Area Summary) for Urban Hotels and Resort projects
Reviewing drawings and design documents, material samples and all relevant project documentation from concept through construction document phases. Ensuring compliance with the Four Seasons Design Standards
Providing guidance and advice on project schedules, design stages and important project milestones. Assist Owners with organizing key Design Presentations (Schematic Design) and Model Room reviews
Providing regular status reports for internal stakeholders
Supporting and coordinating with the Portfolio Management team with direction on CAPEX and new build related matters
Assisting with establishing the project design team, recommending relevant consultants. Maintaining strong relationships with existing and potential new consultants
Maintaining all project communication and records and motivating team to drive key milestone achievements; and other Design and Construction related developments
Assisting with project budget estimates, programming and how to deliver often complex renovation projects (Capex) within operating hotels
Providing guidance and advice on any necessary Value Engineering solutions
Supporting the Four Seasons Development Team in their pursuit of new opportunities. Carrying out desk top design reviews, visiting potential properties for possible conversion. Preparing reports and advise accordingly on the potential of these opportunities. Advising on the extent of renovation works required to meet Four Seasons Design Standards
Preparing Property Improvement Plans (PIP) for potential conversion projects
Our Ideal Director of Design and Construction candidate will have:
A degree in Architecture, Engineering or Design, Architecture license + LEED certification preferred, and a minimum of 7 years’ experience managing the development, design, engineering, and construction of luxury hotels and resorts, residential, mixed-use hospitality and entertainment projects in domestic and international markets.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction and design process within the luxury segment of hospitality, solid understanding of hotel planning principles, the ability to coordinate and cross-reference design drawings from multiple disciplines, fluency with architectural, engineering and design industry terminology and practices, and possess various computer skills including CAD/other drafting software, creative software, Microsoft Office skills and Acrobat.
This role requires a team player with a strong initiative, self-motivation, excellent critical thinking ability, can work on and prioritize multiple projects and adapt well to changing priorities, be a creative problem solver, have cultural sensitivity, and have exceptional communication skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate through challenging situations with composure and professionalism.
