About the Role
The Category Manager is responsible for the entire IT Category Management, Sourcing, and Strategy for GEMS Schools across UAE & Qatar and the GEMS Corporate Office. The Manager will work with GEMS IT leadership team to ensure key business requirements are identified, captured, analysed, prioritized, and scheduled for realization, in line with organizational standards, policies, and principles.
Key Accountabilities:
- Translating business requirements into detailed function specifications and if necessary, managing requests for changes to the specifications.
- Delivering end to end solutions for the procurement of managed categories
- Provides leadership and accountability, ensuring process compliance and delivering optimal sourcing benefits from category management.
- Ensures that the best price is negotiated and obtained for major projects, specifically prepares requests for proposal, negotiates, selects, and identifies the most appropriate suppliers (Price, quality, conditions) in collaboration with requesting department.
- Define GEMS UAE & Qatar IT category strategy, setting performance objectives, and monitoring progress. Also actively engaging with and securing support from key local stakeholders (SSC/Schools).
- Ensures market intelligence is updated regularly and ensures that any changes are updated in the category strategy and appropriate steps are taken to mitigate any potential impact that this information may have on the organisation.
- Produces annual Category management business plans, ensuring that full alignment between GEMS UAE & Qatar requirements and Procurement targets.
- Ensure that GEMS UAE & Qatar category management is aligned with GEMS UAE & Qatar corporate strategies in cooperation with business planning and strategy and delivers results to the bottom line.
- Actively participate and contribute to the development of procurement as a value-adding function within the GEMS UAE & Qatar organisation.
- Provide expertise, leadership, and support to GEMS MENASA organisations to drive overall productivity program, promoting best practice sharing, benchmarking, and market intelligence.
Expected Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, CIPS level 4 desirable.
Expected Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar capacity.
Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills:
- Comfortable working with and supporting high-level stakeholders
- Can operate in a matrix driven structure, able to support cross-functional projects
- Ability to get involved as needed to offer support in GEMS MENASA business operations.
- Expert communicator (verbal and written) and strong negotiator, who can effectively manage relationships that are widely dispersed.
