Laser Technician, Royal Womens Hospital, UAE

 JOB SUMMARY 


Plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of laser treatment to be used for cosmetic laser for a variety of skin care applications to customers / patients as required. 


3.0    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of Practice as per HAAD Regulations, reference : FACL/HSF1.2Clause 7.2.4):

Clinical activities:

3.1    Performs all functions of Laser Technician.

3.2    Responsible for preparing clients for hair removal, operating approved laser devices and providing clients with post-treatment skin care.

3.3    Responsible for assessing the skin care concerns of a client, conferring with the Dermatologist / Plastic surgeon or other supervisor to develop the best treatment plan while applying the laser treatment.

3.4    Ensures proper care is taken during the Hair removal, tattoo removal, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles, varicose veins and rosacea and other frequently requested services.

3.5    Ensures to usage of protective devices during the therapy for patient and self.

3.6    Ensures equipment’s are cleaned and decontaminated according to established guidelines policies and procedures. 

3.7    Ensures instrument sets are standardized, sterilized and in good working condition according to the hospital policies and procedures. 

3.8    Is meticulous about infection control and safety policies.

3.9    Responsible for maintaining a clean unit as per infection control and waste management policy of the hospital.

3.10    Ensures that the patients / clients are well informed about the treatment and the pros and cons of the same.

3.11    Takes responsibility for professional clinical practice and is actively involved in updating and continuing education


Administrative activities:

3.12    Develops and coordinates with the HR Department in the orientation of new staff according to the orientation program, hospital policies and procedures.

3.13    Monitors, documents and reports effectiveness of the laser equipment being used.

3.14    Notifies appropriate departments on malfunctions of equipment.

3.15    Maintains and updates all relevant patient documentations/medical records as per hospital policy and procedures. 

3.16    Maintains confidentiality of patient’s records.

3.17    Follows reporting mechanisms/chain of command within the Department

3.18    Participates in/initiates quality Improvements within the Department to continuously improve education or services

3.19    Develops, coordinates and participates in routine educational programs and staff meetings to facilitate professional growth and quality patient care.

3.20    Establishes and ensures the implementation of Laser department policies and procedures, in keeping with the infection control and environmental health and safety policies of the various regulatory departments.

3.21    Demonstrates strict adherence to all hospital policies and procedures.

3.22    Coordinates with the Infection Control Nurse for any activities pertaining to infection and control.

OSHMS activities:

3.23    Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures

3.24    Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

3.25    Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures

3.26    Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety

3.27    Assist with the preparation of risk assessments

3.28    Report OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues

3.29    Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible

3.30    Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.

3.31    Participates in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.


Miscellaneous activities:

3.32    Any other assigned responsibilities on a need basis as identified by the Dermatologist, Plastic surgeon, Nursing Administrator Hospital Administrator & Medical Director.

 

Qualifications

 

4.0    QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL  SKILLS

4.1.    Certification of training from an approved institute of Laser technicians.

4.2.    Required 2 years of experience in relevant area.

4.3.    Current Basic life support (BLS)

4.4.    Currently licensed in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE. 

4.5.    Demonstrates a motivation to work in a health care environment.

4.6.    Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.

4.7.    Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.

4.8.    Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.

4.9.    Possess a “can do” and flexible approach. 

4.10.    Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.

4.11.    Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients’ preferences.

4.12.    Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

4.13.    Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting

4.14.    Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy.
