Job Scope
This position is responsible for providing legal advice and support to the management teams of Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC), and its joint venture companies (JVCo’s), on a variety of corporate, commercial, operational and strategic legal matters.
Job scope
- Balancing conflicting business demands, producing high quality, practical and commercially oriented legal and compliance based advice in response to tight deadlines, managing allocated outsourced work and communicating effectively to ensure clients are fully informed of progress towards the resolution of problems and the completion of their projects.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and documents (including but not limited to general terms and conditions (whether customer or supplier in nature), corporate sales agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other general commercial contracts relating to the business, including complex transaction documents such as joint venture agreements and ancillary documents) to ensure that the company’s best contractual and commercial position is attained. The ongoing maintenance of contractual templates is key.
- Providing timely, yet substantive, Labour Law advice to the Human Resources team on a broad range of local law labour matters.
- The ability to manage a small legal team – specifically including the development of junior lawyers.
- Working with, managing and negotiating effectively the use of outside legal counsel acting on behalf of EKFC and its JVCo’s.
- Develop and implement the legal and compliance framework for EKFC and its JVCo’s.
- Develop and implement a reporting framework for regulatory requirements, where applicable.
- Lead and implement the definition of legal policies whilst keeping abreast of legal developments and best practice globally.
- Responsible for the legal budget and ensure that this is effectively managed within the corporate guidelines and targets.
- Establishes effective relationships with customers and staff, networks effectively within and without the organisation and relates well to individuals at all levels.
- Focuses on customer needs and satisfaction, sets high standards for quality and quantity and consistently achieves set goals.
Education Qualification
- Law degree and completion of a postgraduate professional such as the Legal Practice Course (LPC), Bar Practice Course or their equivalent.
- Admitted to practise law in a recognised jurisdiction.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience is required with a minimum of five years PQE.
- Experience in a corporate in-house legal department or law firm.
- Experience in a leadership role within the Legal function
- Experience in developing compliance monitoring programs
Skills
- Specialised knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: (i) corporate law; (ii) commercial contract law; (iii) finance law; (iv) transactions (such as mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures); and (v) the management/development of a legal team.
- Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills. Arabic preferred but not essential.
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team setting.
- Ability to manage both day-to-day operations as well as project work
- Ensuring that professional knowledge is sufficiently maintained and applied by monitoring and reviewing legal publications and changes in legislation and sharing updates with stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-border stakeholders (specifically in relation to EKFC’s JVCo’s).
