Sr. Engineer, Data Center Engineering
Major Accountabilities
- Installation, monitoring, maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting support for multi-vendor hardware in an enterprise data center environment.
- Deliver server upgrades, integration, rebuild, and other projects as required.
- Manage and coordinate colocation vendor resources for installation and cabling of multi-vendor IT equipment.
- Project manages highly impactful large- and small-scale data center projects.
- Build plans to optimize power, cooling, and network resources.
- Design and cost-effective support copper and fiber optic wiring solutions in support of multi-vendor hardware connectivity.
- Manage physical aspects of the IT infrastructure using Mastercard standard DCIM tool.
- Forecasting to efficiently match supply to demand. Predict data center growth and scaling issues before they occur and implement solutions
- Implement process improvements and develop a cutting-edge operational environment.
- Create and update Mastercard standards documentation for sharing with other internal teams.
- Plans, coordinates, budgets, and implements resources to complete projects and maintenance within the data center.
- Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, routers, and other devices.
- Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies equipment.
- Communicates and coordinates activities and on-site staff during an incident.
- Design plans as well as lead initiatives for the optimization and restructuring of network architecture, including preparing of BOQs.
- Reporting, supervising, and auditing contractors for Network / Data Center projects as a Project Manager.
- Preparing RFP and doing a Technical Analysis / Evaluation for the required new Technical Projects.
- On-Call support for hardware, networking, and infrastructure for a 7 x 24 data center.
- Proficient experience in multiple IT domains, including data center engineering, networking, and IT infrastructure support.
- Thorough understanding of structured copper and fiber optic cabling solutions and methods for troubleshooting UTP Copper and Fiber Optic cabling issues.
- Hands-On experience on Cisco product portfolio and Unix/Linux/Windows operating systems.
- Understanding of electrical and HVAC technologies and systems.
- Deep understanding of data center power and cooling infrastructure, of network and cabling infrastructure.
- Experience in project management, vendor management, and negotiations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and vendors.
- Hands-on experience with Data Center Build or Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and pick up new technology, process, and standards.
- Knowledge of DCIM tool e.g., AGConnect is considered as an asset.
- Ability to make decisions and work with minimal direction.
- Experience handling large-scale data center hardware deployments, building data centers, and directly leading data center-related projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
- CCNP (R&S), ATD (Accredited Tier Designer), AOS (Accredited Operations Specialist) are preferred.
